TIE ME DRUNKEN BOTTLE TREE DOWN , SPORT !

Upstanding bottle.  Vallis Photograph .
Battered   by    Cyclone  Yasi ,  this  Narrow  Leaf   Bottle  Tree , in the  25 hectare Anderson Botanic  Gardens ,  Mundingburra , Townsville,  had   to  be  pruned  and   tied   to  several  stakes   because  of   its   drunken  tilt  and  damage. It   now   only   requires  one   tie  down  and  is   growing well .  The  category  4 cyclone  resulted    in  one  third  of  the  trees  in  the  parkland  being lost . Now  the  Townsville City Council  has  approved  a  plan  to  plant  200   new  trees . The   popular  area  specialises  in  plants  of  the   dry  tropics  and   has   many   very  large  specimens .
