SAVE THE MURDERING WAILERS

It  is  hoped  that  former Senator Bob Brown’s   newly  acquired  interest  in  the extraordinary  Australian bird,  the Curlew, will  raise community  interest  in  these  creatures and result in  more protection , particularly in  North Queensland  where  they  are  in  reasonable numbers, but  under  threat , at  times deliberately  run down by motorists.  Once  prevalent  in  southern  states, the birds  are   few  and   far  between. Attempts  are  being  made   in  some areas  to breed   them   in  protected  enclosures  to   reintroduce  them to the countryside. With a mournful  cry at night, they  have  been called  murder birds .  Over the years   Brown , who once worked as  a doctor in  Darwin and Alice Springs, has  been involved  in  many  environment   and  human  rights  battles, the latest to save  whales  from   the    bogus  Japanese scientific   slaughter .
