NICK  AND  NED  EXPOSE  GREAT AUSTRALIAN ELECTRICITY HIGHWAY  ROBBERY
CANBERRA : Yet again , smart and effective  South Australian Independent  Senator ,Nick Xenophon, above,  has  exposed   the  highway  robbery  in  power  bills  throughout  the nation .  During  the  first sitting of  the new Senate , speaking against the  Coalition’s desire to ram through the  carbon tax  bills, he  said it had been shown that the tax only  caused  a  third of the increase in electricity bills. Companies  had  been " gold  plating " their  services , over  charging as  a   result , treating  businesses  and  manufacturers  as " mugs".
He also  raised  the  ineffectual so-called regulators , with weak powers , who  fall  for  the  spurious  cases  the  power  companies  put  up to  justify  huge  increases in  tariffs.  ABC   TV revealed  the case of  a  power company  which  wanted to  build  a  high  tension power  line  across  a  farming area  to  meet  claimed   future  demand .
Challenged  to  produce  facts and  figures by the local community , it  was  shown that  there  was  no  need  for  such  a  power line .  It  is  yet another  instance where  rubbery  figures , especially  future expectations  are  unrealistic .   However ,  the  utilities  make a  bundle and  continue  to  bleed  the  consumers .  Senator Xenophon  also criticised  the  Abbott Government  for declaring  only overseas firms , in South Korea or Spain,  could tender  for the construction of  two navy ships in a $1.5billion contract . The  construction jobs were badly needed  here in Australia after Holden, Ford and Toyota decided to pull out .   Budget cuts   would  further   damage   manufacturing . In the past he has called  for Qantas chief Alan Joyce and  the board  to be sacked . Qantas  has announced  ending  the  carbon tax will not result in  a  reduction of  the  ticket increase blamed on  the  tax. Yet another example  of  how  Australians  are  being  ripped  off.
Australian power  consumers are being  crucified. Now power companies are reneging  on  solar  energy deals  and wanting to stop owners of solar panels  feeding  back  into  the  grid.
