MISS WONG GOING WILD

AVAST, BACK OFF! Guarding  Big  Teddy , Larry  warns  off   Queen  and Miss Wong. The blue doll he likes to drag into his  cage at  night and  gets  upset  when it is  taken away to be  washed .
An important  event   in  the life of  Miss  Wong – a   Torres Strait Pigeon – is  about  to take place . A  weak , young  foundling , she  was  nursed  back  to  health by  a  kind German wildlife  carer  known as  the  Queen of  the Jungle.  As reported earlier ,  Miss Wong    has been keeping   company with  Larry  the  sea-going , talking  and cursing Lorikeet  ,  who has a busted  wing from  Cyclone  Larry  ,  and   is  holidaying  on  Magnetic  Island  while  his  owners, Jenn and  John  Payne , have been  away  working  in  various  parts  of   the  country .

As  Miss Wong  has  grown  in size and  strength, Larry has become   jealous about her getting so much attention , wanting to play with his  soft toys , which  now number no less than  three teddy bears . While he is  distracted  being  fed  Weet  Bix  with  milk  off  a  spoon , cheeky Miss Wong  cuddles up  to his  toys . When he spots her daring to touch  his  possessions , he  hops  from  object   to   object   like  a  blood-thirsty pirate, swinging  aboard  ship   armed with a  cutless, screeching ,  muttering," Bugger, bugger , bugger !"

Miss Wong tempting  fate
Miss  Wong  retreats  and  seems to  enjoy the  chase . At  this stage , she regards  the Queen of  the Jungle  as her  mother and  often  sits on her  head  or  shoulder  in  the  enclosed  verandah.

Soon Miss  Wong and  Larry will  be transported  north to Mission Beach . There  Miss Wong will  be  placed in an aviary to get used to her  kind  and eventually  join  them in  the  wild . To  get  her  accustomed  to eating  wild  berries , Miss  Wong  has been  fed on  grapes and blueberries , along with yoghurt  and  some of  Larry’s Weet Bix , when  he  is  not looking .
