QUEENSLAND ATTRACTS STRANGE KIWI SNOW BUNNIES

 
The heavy  1992  snowfall in the Canterbury district of  New  Zealand   killed  more than  a million sheep , causing losses of  $50 million,  and  closed  Christchurch  for 12 hours .   Some   residents , below ,   donned  tropical  clothing  and   posed   on  a  balcony   with   Queensland  travel brochures,  snow  in  abundance .  

 
 The   pictorial  booklet ,  published by  Philip  King  Booksellers ,  was   recently  acquired  by   a   Little  Darwin  runner  in   a   sweaty round  of   Townsville  op  shops .  Over the  years , this writer has visited Christchurch several times and  bought   interesting books,  pieces  of  ephemera , and  even   old   pub  soda  siphons-now sitting  on  a  showcase  gathering  dust .  The  city’s own wizard  was  seen  speaking  to  passers  by  from  a  stand   in   Cathedral  Square.
