WARTIME LETTER TO AMERICA FROM AUSTRALIA

An unusual find by Little Darwin in North Queensland is this  WWll  piece of sheet music ,  Dear Mom , sung  by Radio Star Jack Kolder , in uniform,  from somewhere  in  Australia, where he was  appearing . The cover design  includes a stylised Australian  stamp on  an envelope  to  an address  in Pennsylvania .  Also written on  the front  is the name  Constance Robino , St. Gabriels ( an Anglican college ), Charters  Towers . In  the song  , copyright  1941, the soldier tells  Mom  her  cake  she  sent  him  made a  hit with the camp, the food  is  OK and  he misses  his  old bed .  He expresses  a  wish- that the Army would be “co-ed”.  If  his mother runs  into  a  certain “You know  who” , please give her a kiss  and ask  her  to  write  nightly . The  homesick  soldier  signs  off  as  the  bugle  just  blew   for   tomorrow’s  big day  with plenty to do.
