INCONVENIENT TRUTH ABOUT ASIAN ENGLISH AND OUR USE OF ROMAN NUMERALS

On sale in an Asian grocery shop  in  downtown Townsville are cheap fly swatters . However, the handwritten notice  accompanying  them  says  they are  "Fly Squatters" which  will no doubt result in  AgForce  marching on parliament , again.

Another Asian convenience shop [above] has a  problem with the spelling of its name . Apart  from occasional spelling errors, this blog has  a  problem referring to  the  Second World  War , it  coming out as  World War 11 (eleven ) instead  of ll . Melbourne journalist Kim Lockwood  has  again  pointed  out  to  Little Darwin that there have only been two world conflicts,  not  the  plethora  as  erroneously  presented  by  us .

In our defence, we point out that  apart  from failing eyesight and senile decay , the  computer  has a  number of  dead letters and  the replacement  keyboard   now   has  a  sticking  key, causing  muttering  in  Italian , not  that used  by  the Pope .

While on the subject of unusual  streetscapes, try another  eye catching Townsville  view [below ] which  involves  pirate  flags , peace and  a grand design Queenslander house perched on a hill   looking  like a spider about to  pounce .
