WHAT'S IN A NAUTICAL NAME ? A ROOK FLEW OVER THE MEDIA NEST

A recent  bulk cargo ship to  enter  Townsville  without being noticed by the local media-shipping reporters seemingly almost extinct throughout  the nation -  was the oddly named  ROOK . Rook? In bygone days when there were  shipping reporters  and a  vessel  with this unusual monicker sailed into port it   would immediately  be  the  subject of  investigation  by  an  alert  reporter  or   two .

Could it  be named   after  the chess piece  having the power to move any distance in a straight line if no other pieces  are in the  way ? If  so , why ?  And do the  crew  play chess   while at  sea ? Is  there a man considered the   grand master  aboard  ? A few  reporter type  questions and  there could be   a most unusual  human   interest  story   here .

Registered in Cyprus , the  ship  could  owe its name to the black European crow  which nests  in trees   near  buildings. If so , why ?  Another  colloquial  meaning  for  rook  is   to cheat , fleece , swindleSurely no  shipping  line   would  want to  connected  with  anything   untoward ?

Well , no .  At  least one  line  whose spectacular  vessels  make   regularly  runs to   Townsville without media coverage   has  been  charged  and  fined   millions of  dollars  for  criminal  collusion, an executive locked  up  in America .

See  upcoming  report  for details  in   special ongoing  PLUNDER   DOWN UNDER  SERIES which  highlights  how  the  nation   has  and   is  being  looted , the  workforce  being   squeezed  and  dudded,  farmers  and suppliers  monstered   and   robbed  by  duopolies ...  where  does  it  end  ?
